LARE GrantThe Indiana Department of Natural Resources awards a Lake and River Enhancement Grant every year to applicants showing a need in their area. We are applying for a 2020 grant to aid Pipe Creek. Pipe Creek is on the 303d impaired list, floods regularly, and is showing heavy bank erosion. We are hoping to receive the grant to address these issues. If awarded we will be working with landowners along the creek for help disposing of log jam materials and, possibly, sediment.

Pipe Creek
Pipe Creek stretches from the Delaware County line to the Hamilton County line before flowing in to White River. It has a large drainage area encompassing the towns of Alexandria and Frankton. Pipe Creek is listed on IDEM's 303d list for impaired waterways for PCB's in fish tissue and impaired biotic communities. With this grant we are hoping to improve the biotic communities along Pipe Creek by removing log jams and addressing bank erosion. The removal of logjams will aid in the frequent flooding, which erodes the banks and brings debris into the creek severely impacting the wildlife. Be aware we will need the help of landowners along the creek in order to reach the logjams and remove all of the debris. Once Pipe Creek is addressed we will set our sights on other parts of the county but for now Pipe Creek has our priority!
